GET INVOLVED!

It's not all about acting.

While the actors are often the most visible members of our organization, there would be no productions without all the behind-the-scenes people who make the shows possible.

We are always looking for volunteers who are willing to learn. Some of the positions include:

Ushers work on show nights helping our patrons find their seats, helping them find their way around the theatre, and answering questions.

Set Builders are the "muscle" that make the set designer's vision come to life. CST has some extremely talented set designers, and set construction is very challenging and rewarding. Are you good with tools? Can you tell which end of the screwdriver you hold? Then come on down!

Stage Managers are the "traffic cops" for a show once it's in production. The stage manager works backstage making sure that the actors hit their cues, that props are in place, and coordinates lights and sound throughout the show. A stage manager needs to be very focused, very detail-oriented.

Lighting Crew. The lighting crew helps the lighting designer set and aim the lights during rehearsals, and often helps run the lights during a show. Our head Lighting Designer, Marcia Burbage, is a multiple-award-winner.

Sound Crew. The sound crew helps the sound designer set up any auxiliary equipment, helps run the sound during a show, and learns the art of Sound Design. Our head Sound Designer, Paul Braun, has several citations and award nominations, and brings a high degree of professionalism to CST's sound designs.

Box Office staff works several nights during the run of a show answering emails, taking phone calls and filling ticket reservations. Our box office is completely computerized, making the task much easier.

Backstage Crew encompasses a number of different duties, including moving set pieces, helping to cue the Stage Manager, managing props, resetting the stage at intermission and making sure everything is in place and ready when the lights come up. No speific abilities needed beyond a willingness to learn, work hard, and occasionally get dirty.

Committees like Marketing or Fund-raising help get the word out and help bring the money in. Ticket sales only comprise a fraction of annual operating costs, so fund-raising is vitally important to the continued survival of the organization.

And Lots More!

If you would like more information about volunteering, you can email us at the Box Office or we can be reached by by phone at 219-464-1636.
